Your formal family photo list helps us make sure we capture the most important people in your life while keeping this portion of the day smooth, organized, and low stress.

Everyone gets a little nervous in front of the camera, and having a clear list helps us confidently call out names, move through groups quickly, and keep everyone feeling comfortable. It also ensures we don’t accidentally miss someone important.

This list is specifically for formal family photos (the organized group portraits that usually happen after the ceremony or during cocktail hour).

It can also include very specific recreation photos, such as recreating a meaningful family photo from another wedding or capturing a moment with a special pose.

This list is not for Pinterest-style poses or inspiration photos. Don’t worry about that part — we’ve got the creative side covered! If there is a Pinterest photo you love, feel free to send it to us separately and if we can make it happen we absolutely will.

Keep in mind that about 90% of your final gallery will be filled with candid moments of your family and friends throughout the day. The formal list is simply to make sure we intentionally capture the most important groupings.

Most couples typically include 10–25 formal family photo groupings.

We use a custom Google Doc template to help you create a throughout list.

Please read through the instructions before beginning and be sure to make a NEW COPY of the

Google Doc before starting and don’t forget to send it back to us once it is finished.

Ideally, we would like this back from you to review at least 3 weeks before the big day!
